Royal Canadian Legion Branch 593 – Bells Corners
What We Do
The Mission of our non-profit Legion Branch is to support ex-service people (Veterans), and to be an active and effective service club within our entire community. Our membership is about 450 individuals. A service background is not required. New members are welcome regardless of race, colour, creed or sexual orientation. Almost all the activities to be described are open to the widespread community, membership not required.
We run an organized program of support for a large number of veterans, including spouses and widows.
Organized activities include weekend dance entertainment, plus numerous special day celebrations such as Canada Day and Remembrance Day. We sponsor sports and other activities including euchre, linedancing, pool, darts and golf. We own a large building with good parking – meeting rooms are provided free to worthy groups such as AA and a guide dog training organization. Facilitie are provided free for all Celebration of Life events.
We donate substantially to veterans organizations plus worthy community groups such as the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Ottawa Mission. The funds for these donations come from our annual Poppy Campaign plus other sources such as volunteer duties with OLG Bingoland.
We support youth via financial support for Cadet groups plus bursaries for selected students seeking higher education.
Overall approximately 1200 people from our community are involved annually.
